About the Job
The Como Hotel is seeking a reliable, skilled and hands-on Part-Time Maintenance Technician to support the ongoing care and maintenance of our boutique hotel.
This role combines a regular part-time schedule with on-call availability for urgent maintenance needs. The ideal candidate is an experienced general maintenance professional who can independently troubleshoot and complete routine repairs, identify issues before they become larger problems, and recognize when specialized or licensed trades are required.
Because maintenance work frequently takes place in guest suites, we are looking for someone who is not only technically capable, but also professional, discreet and attentive to the guest experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance throughout guest suites and hotel areas.
- Troubleshoot and complete minor plumbing, carpentry, drywall and basic electrical fixture repairs.
- Perform drywall repairs, touch-up painting and other general finishing work.
- Inspect, troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance on PTAC/climate-control systems.
- Inspect and test smart locks, lighting, fixtures and building safety hardware.
- Identify maintenance issues proactively and address them before they affect hotel operations or the guest experience.
- Respond to maintenance requests and troubleshoot problems efficiently and independently.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed and report deficiencies, recurring issues or repairs requiring specialized trades to hotel management.
- Coordinate appropriately with hotel management and external trades when an issue is outside the scope of general maintenance.
- Enter occupied guest suites when required and conduct work with professionalism, discretion and respect for the guest and their belongings.
- Leave all guest suites and work areas clean, neat and fully organized after completing maintenance work.
- Follow hotel safety procedures and proper use of tools and equipment.
- Serve as the hotel's primary on-call maintenance contact for urgent property issues, with the ability to reach the hotel within approximately 30–60 minutes when required.
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in general maintenance, handyman services, hotel maintenance, strata/building operations or a similar role.
- Working knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, drywall, painting and electrical fixtures.
- Strong troubleshooting and practical problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working independently and determining when an issue requires escalation to a specialized or licensed trade.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to completing work properly.
- Clear and professional English communication skills.
- Reliable and able to manage scheduled responsibilities with minimal supervision.
- Ability to provide on-call availability for urgent maintenance situations.
- Ability to reliably reach The Como Hotel within approximately 30–60 minutes when responding to an on-call emergency.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., use ladders and safely perform the physical requirements of general maintenance work.
- Must be currently residing in BC and legally able to work in Canada.
- Tools and equipment required for the role are provided by the hotel.
